10 Ways to Keep Happy and Healthy Hair

For many of us, having healthy hair is really important. That's why we've put together a quick guide on 10 Ways to Keep Happy and Healthy Hair:

1. Learn your hair's "shower schedule": When we ask others, "how long do you usually wait before you wash your hair?" and get a response different to yours, this is an indication that that person has a different "shower schedule" than you. Depending on the oiliness of your hair and the activities you participate in, this can help you find out when to wash your hair. (So if you go and work out, you should probably wash your hair. The oils from sweat in your hair are transferred to your pillow case, and then you may contract bad acne from that.)

2. Use mayo and egg in your hair mask: Before trying this out, we remembered the one episode in "The Office" where they used mayo for lice. Well, mayo is actually really beneficial for your hair. It's made out of an egg and oil base, which in turn deeply moisturizes your hair. Egg, on the other hand, is amazing for your hair. The yolk is highly moisturizing as well, and both elements combined with give an ultimate shine and strength factor for your luscious locks.

3. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner: This is really important. Buying the $3 bottle of shampoo will NOT do well for your hair. It's pretty much the equivalent of dollar-store makeup that came from China. Just don't do it to yourself. Most common shampoos that are good will range from five to seven dollars a bottle. Spending the couple of dollars can really change the game, and we always say 'If you don't know what's in it, how could you even want to use it?'

4. Brush your Hair: Brushing your hair can most definitely be a pain. Especially when curly hair turns into an afro, and those knots are just way too painful. Regardless, brushing your hair is super important. Your scalp produce natural oils in the follicles, and when you brush your hair, these oils are distributed for a shining look.

5. Stop Using the Blow Dryer: Yes, there are heat protectants. But, do you really know what is in them? Using the blow dryer is okay once in a while, but using it daily can really damage your hair. Since a blow dryer is so hot, it actually stresses out the hair massively. Additionally, what really happens is that the water under the "cuticles" of the hair form bubbles and breaks it. If you don't want brittle hair, then we suggest taking the blow dryer out of the routine more often.

6. Sleep in a Braid: Your hair can get really messy when you're sleeping. If you're like me, you don't like your hair in your face when you're snoozing. Wearing your hair up in a ponytail causes the follicles to be stretched by the movement of your sleep schedule. However, braiding your hair can help prevent this tightness on your follicles, and can give you a cute, wavy hairstyle to rock the next day.

7. Eat Healthy & Drink Water: Water is essential. The older we get, the more we realize that water is a heaven sent drink. It keeps clear skin, BO out the way, and keeps us hydrated. Drinking water hydrates your hair. When you hydrate your hair, this keeps it strong and shiny.

8. Trim your Hair: From my early teen years, I would always just trim my hair. It wasn't worth the $30 haircut when I could snip away an inch by myself. When you trim your hair, this gets rid of the dead ends at the bottom, making way for more healthy, happy hair to grow in.

9. Massage your scalp: When you're in the shower washing your hair or your SO is in the room, find a way to massage your scalp. Massaging your scalp can help to create more blood flow in your head, and this energizes your hair follicles.

10. Be YOU: If you are happy and healthy, so is your hair. When you're not in the right frame of mind, your hair might not be either. Helping your hair can help you. So if you're reading this because you want to feel better through helping your hair we're totally with you. A good hair mask and massage can fix up a lot of life's stresses.
