The Benefits of Silk

It is estimated that by the year 2021, the silk industry will be worth almost 17 billion dollars. Silk is a beautiful, yet expensive fabric material that many love. For many reasons, silk is the best material for your next new scrunchie.

1. Silk encourages a regulated moisture balance in your hair. Unlike cotton, silk doesn't draw any sebum away from your hair. In fact, for many who have Eczema, silk scrunchies can be the perfect solution to a dry head of hair because of their smooth and soft texture.

2. Silk is hypoallergenic. It won't attract dust mites. So don't worry, you will never consciously or unconsciously put a dusty silk scrunchie in your hair from Happily MeCo. Silk is free of any irritating added chemicals and in fact contains natural elements that ward off dust mites, mold, and fungus.

3. Sleeping on Silk. Sleeping in your silk scrunchie can prove to be very beneficial. Due to its form and texture, it does not conduct static electricity when friction is present. Wearing silk scrunchies can fight against dry, flakey skin. When you sleep on cotton, you hair will bunch, knot, and get staticky because of the friction. However, hair will slide with a silk scrunchie; this is much less damaging. Therefore, sleeping on silk helps retain moisture levels and reduce hair breakage. So say goodbye to split ends and dry hair!

4. Silk contains amino acids. Did you know that silk was actually a natural protein and it has 18 amino acids in its structure? Additionally, silk contains natural cellular "albumin," or a natural protein that is soluble in water and coagulable in heat, which actually increases the speed of skin cell metabolism. Therefore, wearing silk scrunchies assists in retaining high health in the skin and hair follicles.

5. Silk is super breathable. Silk is a natural temperature regulator. When it is cold, the silk will retain heat. However, when it's warm, the silk will expel heat. This allows your body to retain a comfortable, natural temperature. (Anyone who suffers from hot flashes should try sleeping in their silk scrunchie, and using silk sheets or pajamas.)
